Occupational safety and health with a method – pays off

Information on the work programme organisation of the Joint German Occupational Safety and Health Strategy (GDA)

A healthy workforce is more productive and less likely to cause downtime – the benefits of a workplace designed for health and safety are clear. So that businesses can guarantee that occupational safety and health conditions for their staff are maintained and continuously improved, they need a good, functioning OSH organisation. This is all the more effective if it is closely integrated in company processes and decisions.
The GDA work programme organisation helps businesses analyse and improve their internal OSH organisation. The focus is on two areas:

  • The risk assessment as a central instrument of OSH
  • Better integration of health and safety in company processes and decisions

The programme at a glance

The programme is implemented with a combination of information, advice and supervisory measures. Every business is different, which means the activities must be individually tailored.

  • GDA-ORGAcheck: This tool offers companies a simple way of analysing and improving their own OSH organisation. The check is available online at and can also be ordered as a printed brochure. (See box)
  • Inspection and advice: Since February 2014, inspectors of the OSH authorities and accident insurers have been carrying out coordinated company audits. They pay particular attention to the internal OSH organisation and risk assessment. The audits are based on the GDA guidelines on OSH organisation and the GDA guidelines on risk assessment and documentation.
  • Information events and seminars on workplace OSH organisation
  • Services for introducing an OSH management system, for example as part of an inspection and consulting process

Online-Tool: GDA-ORGAcheck

The GDA designed ORGAcheck primarily for small and medium-sized enterprises in order to enable them to anonymously evaluate their own OSH organisation. It provides them with an easy-to-use tool for checking their OSH organisation and improving it if necessary. The check allows them to specifically identify weaknesses in the OSH organisation and initiate the necessary improvements. It can also be used for evaluating suppliers, partner companies and contractors.
The internet tool not only includes checklists, but also explanations, information and help. It also enables businesses to compare themselves to other companies (benchmarking).
