Occupational safety and health objectives

Exploiting new prevention potential together: the Joint German Occupational Safety and Health Strategy provides the framework.

With the joint strategy, the German government, federal states and public accident insurance institutions are making the prevention work more systematic and more closely coordinated on the basis of joint occupational safety and health objectives, fields of action and work programmes.

The occupational safety and health objectives relate to the following fields: technical safety, accident prevention, health protection, workplace health promotion and the humane design of work. They also include aspects of the work task, design of the workplace and the working environment, work organisation and HR development.

Appropriate occupational safety and health objectives are selected in a stage model. Here, recourse is made to the specialised knowledge and experience of various facilities familiar with occupational safety and health. On the one hand, scientific and empirical data are used, on the other, the practical experience and knowledge of the GDA bodies are also included.

The occupational safety and health objectives are established in a consensus between the GDA bodies and in close consultation with the social partners. Objective criteria are, among others, the ability to exert preventive influence, the connection between work and illness and the possibility of implementation.

The occupational safety and health objectives are established for a period of about three to five years during which all bodies/institutions and other stakeholders contribute towards achieving the objectives through joint campaigns and joint action.
